Labour Minister’s Assistant Supports Employees and Employer of Isetan Department Store after Closure

          Assistant to the Labour Minister Go visited Isetan to provide support after business operations will stop, due to the expiration of the building lease agreement. He emphasized that organizations, employees, and employers are cared for and protected in all dimensions.

          On March 16, 2020, at 15.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul assigned Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng met with Mr. Seiji Aoyama, Chairman of the Board for Isetan Thailand Department Store. The meeting discussed assistance for organizations, employees and employers after ending business operations, due to the expiration of the lease agreement between Isetan (Thailand) Company Limited and Central Pattana Public Company Limited. The meeting took place at Central World Shopping Center on August 31, 2020 onwards.

          Dr. Duangrit said that the Ministry of Labour is fully prepared to take care of the organizations, employees and employers of Isetan, such as job placement, both in and out of the system, including part-time work and taking work back to do at home. For employees who want to continue working, the Ministry of Labour will try to source vacancies that are similar to the original jobs. As for those who want to change that profession, the Department of Skill Development is ready to provide training for working skills. In addition, the Social Security Office is ready to look after the workers’ rights while changing to a new workplace.

          Isetan (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has been operating since 1992, for a total of 28 years. Currently, there are 170 employees, divided into 53 males and 117 females. The daily minimum wage is 331 Baht and the minimum monthly payment is 10,000 Baht per month. In the case of termination, the company has officially notified employees and will pay compensation for termination of employment for all employees based on their length of employment and the rate specified by law.
