Labour Minister’s Assistant Supports Victim from Covid-19 Affects in Finding Employment

          Today (August 17, 2020), Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat visited the Bang Khen area to help Mr. Dang (fictional name) who is affected by Covid-19, with no food to sustain life for himself and children, to the extent of stealing food from convenience stores.

          Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng revealed that “Mr. Dang (fictional name) was unemployed from a layoff and was unable to find work from other employers. He had no money to buy food and could not stand the hunger, so he resulted to stealing rice from convenience stores. He did this so that he would be imprisoned so that he could have meals to eat every day. The moving news was shared on social media. Regarding this matter, the Ministry of Labour has not been restless. The Department of Employment is responsible for finding jobs for the unemployed, especially during the spread of the pandemic resulting in employers/companies terminating workers and leading to an increase in unemployment. There are currently over 53,000 vacancies available nationwide. Mr. Dang (fictional name), aged 39 years, lives in Bang Khen. He graduated with a vocational certificate and has two children. Today, the Ministry of Labour’s representative visited the area to help him find a job, whereby the Department of Employment by the Bangkok Employment Office Area 9, is responsible for bringing vacancies in the area to service job seekers and help in applications. Mr. Dang was interested in working in the mechanic area, which is what he has learned and registered to find a job with the office. The Bangkok Employment Office Area 9 will coordinate with the employer/company to arrange a meeting and job interview.

          Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat said that the Ministry of Labour cares for the people and is aware of the unemployment problems arising from the effects of Covid-19. The Ministry of Labour has instructed all relevant departments in every province to urgently survey and assist according to their own mission, to alleviate the suffering of people in the future.
