Ministry of Labor prepares 11th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labor (AFML).

            On September 14, 2018, Mr. Somsak Apinantanakul, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, presided over the closing ceremony of the 11th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labor (AFML) at the Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel. The 11th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Workers (AFML) today is intended to provide a forum for government officials, employers, employees, and all stakeholders are discussing the progress, motivation, recommendations, actions to promote and protect migrant workers’ rights as a result of the 10th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labor (AFML) in 2017 in the Republic of the Philippines. It also provides an opportunity to develop recommendations in the context of Thailand to support the use of digital technology to promote valuable employment for migrant workers in ASEAN region. It is clear that Digital Technology is inevitable. The 4th Industrial Revolution resulted in rapid change. It is time for Thailand and ASEAN member countries to work together to develop human resources in line with the goal of bringing the country into the digital age. The government holds important policies such as Thailand 4.0, industry 4.0 and economic models that are driven by creativity, innovation, technology and high service. In addition, what we should be aware of is the use of technology and innovation to benefit. It is a part that promotes the development and protection of human rights, both Thai and foreign workers. Meanwhile, all sectors must work together to develop solutions to the challenges and constraints that may arise from inequalities in access and lack of skills for digital technology.

            The Ministry of Labour is confident that with the efforts of the government and related sectors. We will be able to take advantage of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to enhance the quality of life for workers by providing them with a universal access to valuable work without leaving anyone behind. Today’s meetings are unlikely to be successful without the involvement of all involved and participants. We hope that the recommendations made today will be beneficial and contribute to the promotion of valuable employment in the ASEAN region, ” Mr. Somsak said.
