Ministry of Labour Ministerial Regulations Prevent Young Employees Not Ready for Pregnancy

          Mr. Ananchai Uthaipattanachep, Director General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, revealed that on February 13, 2018, the Cabinet has approved the drafting of the Ministerial Regulations defining the types, criteria, procedures, conditions and operations of the establishments to prevent and solve problems. According to the Ministry of Labor proposed by Section 4 and Section 8 of the Act, prevention and correction of pregnancy problems in adolescence, 2016. It is stipulated that entrepreneurs have the duty to educate the adolescent to work in the workplace, which is between 15-20 years old and the Ministry Workers have the duty to issue ministerial regulations to comply with this Act. For the essence of the draft ministerial regulations, it requires the establishment to provide information about the pregnancy of adolescents by making a manual public relations to educate employees about prevention of pregnancy, contraception, pregnancy problems, abortion, complications of abortion STDs, and HIV infection.
          The Director General said that in the case where a business establishment employing more than 200 persons, the Ministerial Regulations on Welfare at the Business Establishment 2005 requires that regular nurses must be employed in the place of business. In addition, if an employee wishes to seek counseling or seek reproductive health services, employers must give employees access to support services from the hospital. There is also a system of forwarding by coordinating the help to get employees to receive social welfare. The next step will be to consider the amendment of the Council of State.
