MOL and MSDHS Help People Affected by COVID-19 to Have a Better Life

The Ministry of Labour joined the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in a visit to areas affected by the COVID-19 virus outbreak at the Fueng Fah community, Prawet, Bangkok. The Labour Minister emphasized that agencies in the area speed up to assist with the mission to ensure the people have jobs, an income, and a better quality of life.

                On May 24, 2020, Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul, Minister of Social Development and Human Security Juti Krairuek, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s executive committee, visited the area to meet, discuss, and inquire about the need for support from people suffering from the COVID-19 epidemic, at the Fueng Fah community, Chalermprakiat Rama 9 Road, Soi 39, Nong Bon, Prawet, Bangkok. The Labor Minister said that the COVID-19 virus outbreak has caused many establishments to temporarily close as a result of the state’s orders to close. In addition, many establishments have been affected by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, unable to continue the business, causing some workers to become unemployed and have no income to support themselves and their families, leaving them in a difficult situation.

                M.R. Chatu Mongol said that the visit today intended to meet, discuss, and inquire about the need for support from the government. The Ministry of Labor has introduced various measures to help people who have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis, such as finding work to do, career guidance, getting a job to do at home, self-employment, professional training as needed, skill development for self-employed workers, providing knowledge about labour protection laws and taking applications for insured persons under the social security system, to create security guarantee, for example.

                The Fueng Fah community in ​​Prawet, has a total of 122 households and a population of 360, of which 51 are elderly people, 3-bed patients, 2 disabled people, and 11 children from newborn-1 years of age, 10 children from 1-3 years of age, 35 children from 3-6 years of age and 45 children from 6-15 years of age. Most of the people wanted to have a stable career, followed by requests for the repair of homes for the elderly and disabled, and the need for wheelchairs and things necessary for raising a newborn child for example.

                Initially, the Ministry of Labour asked agencies in the area to survey the needs of the people to provide assistance according to the above mission and to monitor progress periodically so that people who suffer and who are in trouble can receive immediate assistance, in order to have a job, a career, an income and a better quality of life as needed.
