Content Description

The Labour Minister directed the Advisor to the Labour Minister to Kamphaeng Phet, to help foreign workers in danger due to working with their employer causing death, ensuring they receive equal benefits as Thai workers.

On January 25, 2020, a fire was caused by machinery, while employees were packing starch into bags at T. C. S. Cassava Starch Industry Co., Ltd., in Khanu Woralaksaburi, Kamphaeng Phet. The incident caused serious injuries to two Burmese employees. The employer sent the employees to receive treatment at Kamphaeng Phet Hospital. Later, on February 4, 2020, one employee died.

From the incident, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul, assigned Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet to visit the area. The Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman assigned the Social Security’s Department Inspector Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut to visit the area. Kamphaeng Phet Social Security Officer Mrs. Ratchanee Phuphromphan gave compensation in the event of death on the job, to the family of Mr. Ye Ko Htet, totaling 841,253.25 Baht. The injured employee Mr. Zar Ni Oo, who was hospitalized, has already been discharged. The medical fees amounted to 18,800.25 Baht, which the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Social Security Office will pay to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak said the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office was concerned and cared for foreign workers, as well as Thai workers in all respects, in terms of accidents on the job via the Compensation Fund, and cases not on the job through the Social Security Fund. In the case of the migrant from Myanmar who died on the job, he was just registered as an insurer for 3 months prior to their death and covered under the compensation law. Therefore,   Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak requested employers who fall within the scope to register for both funds to proceed correctly, so that the Ministry of Labour by the Social Security Office will provide immediate care to the employees and their families.
