Secretariat to the Labour Minister commenced the forum to exchange ideas and amendments to regulations, to resolve issues of deploying Thai workers abroad, guidelines to expand the labour market and facilitate and improve efficiency in sending more Thai workers abroad.
On November 13, 2019, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat chaired the workshop to resolve issues of deploying Thai workers abroad, at Vibhavadi Ballroom, 4th floor, Princeton Park Suites Hotel, Bangkok. The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun welcomed President of the Thai Overseas Employment Association Ms. Aranya Sakulsakosol, who gave a report. The association’s president said that it was a good opportunity for the Secretariat to the Labour Minister to host a meeting to give the association an opportunity to present issues regarding the ministry’s laws and regulations which pose as an obstacle to deploying Thai workers abroad. It was also a good opportunity to present guidelines on expanding the labour market to make the exchange of views more concrete.
The Thai Overseas Employment Association was registered in 2003. There are now 83 members from 134 registered companies as many places gradually ceased business. The President of the Thai Overseas Employment Association proposed issues that the association and members discussed together, including amendments to laws and regulations that are not conducive to deployment, expanding the labour market to foreign countries, skills and language enhancement for Thai workers and for the regulations of Thai embassies in different countries to use the same standards in certifying documents for inbound Thai workers. Currently, different locations have different practices. There should also be penalties for job seekers who go to work in foreign countries and conduct illegal activities such as drug use or trafficking or causing chaos for example. The process for deploying workers abroad should be organized in the same way, and labour exporting companies should be allowed to import foreign workers by using the same license and collateral, to get more professionals for work.
