The Ministry of Labour joins hands with Chulalongkorn University in preparation to sign the cooperation to establish the National Labour Research Center with big data, as the country’s labour management center. The initiative supports the transition to AI technology to develop effective and sustainable labour policies for the 4.0 era, following policy under the government and Minister of Labour.
On February 15, 2019, at 09.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark and Professor Kiat Ruxrungtham, M.D., Vice President for Research and Innovation at Chulalongkorn University, chaired the meeting of the advisory council and the committee of the National Labour Research Center No. 1/2019, at meeting room 201, Chamchuri 3 Building, 2nd floor, Chulalongkorn University. The Ministry of Labour and Chulalongkorn University’s executives attended this meeting which considered the guidelines for cooperation in the establishment of the National Labour Research Center between the two parties, to set policies and frameworks for collaboration and clear joint operations. The meeting considered drafting a memorandum of cooperation in research development and labour researchers between the Ministry of Labour and Chulalongkorn University, and the draft schedule for the signing ceremony of cooperation.
Mr. Jarin said that the essence of the draft memorandum of cooperation in research development and labour researchers between the two parties and the draft schedule for the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement, was to achieve the highest efficiency and the following objectives: 1) To be a research cooperation center between the two agencies to create academic cooperation with networks with the public, private and international educational institutions. 2) To develop the potential of researchers of the Ministry of Labour and Chulalongkorn University. 3) To determine key research issues and conduct joint research in the development of labour following the 20-year national strategy and sustainable development goals (SDGs). 4) To develop academic cooperation and support with labour parties both domestically and internationally. 5) To establish a labour database with big data and personnel development using data analysis in policy research for educational benefits and benefits to people, following policies of the government and Labour Minister.
“Transitioning to disruptive technology and artificial intelligence (AI) will affect the labour market both in and outside the system, including businesses. The Ministry of Labour, therefore, worked with Chulalongkorn University on the establishment of the National Labour Research Center, to be a center that can fully integrate and manage the country’s labour database and be a center for research studies on labour issues. It will also raise the level of database development and make use of research to make policy decisions and become a database that all sectors can use to plan the future of labour development to keep pace and support changes in the 4.0 era with sustainability and maximum efficiency,” concluded Mr. Jarin.
