MOL Demonstrates Hand Washing Gel Making to Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

Content Description

The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development organized a demonstration for making hand-washing gel for people to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus. He emphasized that people required to make close contact with service users or conduct training on the topic of hygiene, must take care and protect themselves, especially in careers like Thai massage therapists and cooks.

On February 11, 2020, Mr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng observed the handwashing gel session at the College of Labour. He said that that from the situation on the spread of the coronavirus that has become severe, government sectors and many agencies have jointly publicized and recommend methods of self-care, and care for family members and close people to prevent exposure to the virus, and to reduce the spread as well. He said that Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul was concerned for the workforce, and therefore assigned agencies under the Ministry of Labour to aid and share awareness to both workers and businesses to realize and give importance to self-protection and care. For example, wearing masks and washing hands often. These practices have resulted in a shortage of masks and hand washing gel. Therefore, the Department of Skills Development organized a demonstration of making hand washing gel so that people can use the knowledge to make it for themselves and their family, saving money and providing initial protection from the virus.

The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, said further that making hand washing gel requires steps and methods that are not difficult. The main ingredient is Carbopol, a powder that produces 70% alcohol gel used for disinfecting, triethanolamine triclosan, a synthetic substance that is effective against certain fungi or viruses, and water, for example. The method of making each product is mixed in the specified ratio, which results in a hand gel for economical use

In addition, the Department of Skill Development instructed Skill Development Institutions and Offices throughout the country, who are staff, trainers of speakers, to emphasize the wearing of masks to reduce the risk of infection from coughing or sneezing, and from a hand to mouth contact to a certain extent. He also advised avoiding crowded places to reduce the risk of infection or the spread of diseases. Training in some areas that requires close contact with others, such as Thai massage practice, advised trainers to be more careful by wearing a mask, frequently washing hands and using alcohol to clean hands regularly. The cooking practice is also the same, as it involves hygiene. For service personnel, he advised staff to also wear masks and take care of themselves, including getting enough rest which can promote prevention to a certain extent.
