He said that it was hoped the UN reform and the UN Development Program at the ILO were actively involved throughout the process, which would be a guarantee of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. He said that the Thai government was confident that the improvements of the ILO tripartite elements at the national level in social dialogue would be key to achieving this and that the more potential national trilateral elements would allow them to be more active and creative in creating valuable work and guarantee successful implementation of the UN Development Assistance Framework in the long term. He urged the ILO to develop development partnerships within the UN, the private sector and society, whereby Thailand would continue support and cooperation in UN reform efforts. He said that the Thai government believed in the ILO’s ongoing efforts to participate in the reform process to ensure that trilateral elements play a role in creating a truly collaborative system and would be prepared for change in the future.
The ILO’s 334th Governing Body meeting acknowledged the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the United Nations Development System (UNDS) which was endorsed on May 31, 2018, and the implications of the resolution on the implementation of program on the ILO’s work; the resolution was called “Repositioning of the United Nations development system in the context of the quadrennial comprehensive policy review of operational activities for development of the United Nations system” which related to member states on measures that can support member states’ efforts to achieve sustainable development goals by 2030. The participation of the ILO at every stage of UN reform, will enable the ILO to play a stronger role in working with organizations within the UN and member states to achieve sustainable development goals. At the same time, the ILO must ensure that the trilateral structure of organizations will remain important and be connected to national development.
