MOL Joins International Economic Policy Committee Meeting No. 3/2021

        On April 22, 2021, at 09.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol as a representative of the International Economic Policy Committee Meeting No. 3/2021 together with the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Apinya Sucharitanan, as a subcommittee and secretary to the subcommittee to drive the implementation of the Cabinet Resolution on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) on labour. The meeting was in a video conference format and considered the performance of the International Economic Policy Committee, following the Cabinet Resolution on January 26, 2021, and the resolution to conduct an in-depth study over 50 days on various issues that cannot be performed. This includes benefits, effects, and remedies, ensuring caution and publicizing and listening to opinions from stakeholders about Thailand joining the CPTPP. The meeting further informed the preliminary law development committee to acknowledge any laws that need to be resolved urgently. It also scheduled the International Economic Policy Committee Meeting No. 4/2021 before reporting the results to the Cabinet. The CPTPP is a comprehensive free trade agreement in trade, services, and investment to establish common standards and regulations among member states concerning intellectual property protection issues, labour standards, environmental law, and mechanisms to resolve disputes between governments and foreign investors. It started in 2006 and currently has 11 members: Japan, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Vietnam.
