MOL Joins Port Authority of Thailand to Enhance International Transportation

             On January 24, 2019, at the meeting room on the 19th floor of the Port Authority of Thailand’s building, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the witnessing of the signing ceremony on the memorandum of cooperation on personnel and workforce development, between the Department of Skill Development and the Port Authority of Thailand. The Department of Skill Development Director-General, Mr. Suthi Sukosol and Director of Laem Chabang Port, Acting Director of the Port Authority of Thailand, Pol.Sub-Lt. Montree Lergchumniel were the signatories of the memorandum.

 

 

            After being chairman of witnessing the signing of memorandum of cooperation, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo said that the logistics industry was significant to the country with over 2.85 million people in the workforce operating transportation, production, national services and distribution to consumers, resulting in demand for skilled workers and the use of modern technology in transportation In addition, the government has set a goal for Thailand to be a logistics center in the Indochina region, whereby the Ministry of Labour is the leading agency in driving workforce development to become super workers, have sufficient potential to promote national competitiveness in the economy, investment and industry. The Department of Skill Development has been assigned to use the guidelines to create a network for the public and private sectors and educational institutions, to participate in the development of workforce potential to support the expansion of the logistics industry and other industries. The goal has been set to develop the workforce in logistics, together with the Port Authority of Thailand for a period of 5 years in 5 port areas, including Bangkok. Laemchabang Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen and Ranong with a target for 1,000 people annually. Initially, training will be provided to personnel of the Port Authority of Thailand at the Simulator Center, in a course for future port business operations, development of logistic work systems, review of crane operations and driving container trucks. The training was attended by 128 trainees.
            In addition, there is cooperation in the development of curriculum and skill standards for various fields with future needs to allow personnel working in the port and logistics industry to have the knowledge and be prepared for a Thailand 4.0. The curriculums also include knowledge exchange, speakers, modern technology and other dimensions in the development of the workforce in various professional fields. It is believed that this cooperation will play an essential role in the development of the workforce to be quality workers, have better skills, keep up with the changes of modern technology and increase capacity to support the demand for international sea freight in the future.
