MOL Joins Press Conference on “Unity Against COVID-19 Among Migrant Workers”

          On June 23, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng joined the press conference on “Unity Against COVID-19 Among Migrant Workers”. Assistant Secretary General for Administration of the Thai Red Cross Society Mr.Tej Bunnag presided over the press conference at the meeting room on the 4th floor, Room 401, Samut Sakhon City Hall. The project was organized to help foreign workers have knowledge and understanding of how to protect themselves and those around them regarding the spread of the virus and allows foreign laborers that are quarantined and in food shortages to survive. He also conducted an inspection of the area and distributed food, cleansing alcohol and mask for migrant workers in Samut Sakhon province.

          The Deputy Minister of Labour also mentioned the Ministry of Labour’s protective measures concerning COVID-19 among foreign workers. The measures can be classified into three categories. This includes the prevention and delay in importing foreign workers since March 23 onwards, until the situation returns to normal, allowing foreign workers to remain in the Kingdom and continue to work until November 30, 2020. The measures include examining, screening, and monitoring migrant workers at the Port-In Port-Out (PIPO) Command Center and requesting cooperation from companies throughout the country. It also includes publicizing and educating employees and insurers in the workplace about COVID-19, and the implementation of the Ministry of Public Health’s recommendation on notifying employers in the workplace about screening foreign workers and monitoring the outbreak, as well as preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus among migrant workers. This also include a 14-day quarantine period as determined by the Ministry of Public Health. The Ministry of Labour has compiled a list of companies that employ foreign workers, or places that are at risk and the number of foreign workers in provinces nationwide, to inform the OFS in order to plan for the detection of COVID-19 following proactive preventive measures together with foreign public health volunteers.
