MOL, ONCB and State Enterprises Sign MOU on Cooperation for Prevention of Drug Problems

            The Ministry of Labour organized the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the prevention and resolution of drug problems between the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and state enterprises, totaling 15 agencies driving together to be prototypes of drug prevention operations, setting the workforce far away from drugs for a better quality of life.

            On February 28, 2019, at 10.30 am, Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong as Director of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) presided over the signing ceremony of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the prevention and resolution of drug problems. The MOU was signed between the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, the Provincial Waterworks Authority, the Provincial Electricity Authority, the Rubber Authority of Thailand, the Tobacco Authority of Thailand, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, Government Savings Bank, PTT PCL, Thai Post Ltd., Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd., the Police Printing Bureau, Royal Thai Police, the Botanical Garden Organization and the Forest Industry Organization, at Jompol P. Pibulsongkram Conference Room, Ministry of Labour. He said that government policy under the administration of Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha announced the intention for drug issues to be a national agenda, to expedite resolutions with concrete results for complete depletion of drugs from Thailand. Thus, he said all parties must work together to face such problems and challenges, starting from enhancing the participation of all sectors for awareness in maintaining economic stability and healthy society by preventing the spread of narcotics, especially among workers. These initiatives will maximize the workers’ benefits affecting economic and social security, and drive the nation towards stability, prosperity and sustainability.
            Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo added that the Ministry of Labour had followed the integrated plan for preventing and resolving drug problems by assigning the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to conduct campaigns to encourage business establishments to join the White Factory Project and have standards to prevent and solve drug problems in the workplace. At present, 51,772 companies have passed the white factory criteria with 4,659,923 workers involved. Another 6,646 companies have adopted the requirements for the prevention and resolution of narcotics with 1,322,395 workers involved. Today, cooperation has expanded to state enterprises to drive and be a model for other companies nationwide to prevent and resolve drug problems This collaboration resulted in 162,445 state enterprise employees from 15 agencies signing the MOU and families to build immunity to protect themselves from drugs, have a better quality of life, and reduce the spread of drug abuse among workers.
