MOL Presents Funds to Help Jobseekers Looking for Work Abroad to Worker in Fatal Accident in South Korea

            On April 22, 2019, at 13.00 hours, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the delivery of funds to help job seekers looking for work abroad, to the relatives of Mr. Prasert Kwanwari, a Thai worker who had suffered an accident from the bridge during the construction of an expressway and died while working in South Korea. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark along with the ministry’s senior executives also attended the occasion. Vice Chairman of Samho Development, Mr. Jeong-su Yang, delivered the funds and met with the deceased worker’s relatives at the Labour Minister’s meeting room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour. The fund totaled 4,144,462.34 Baht, comprising claims for work accidents totaling 65 million Won from Comwel and 50 million Won from Samho Development, equivalent to 4,050,000 Baht, pending wages totaling 1,300,000 Won, equivalent to 39,000 Baht, funds to help job seekers find work abroad totaling 40,000 Baht and old pension funds totaling 15,462.34 Baht. Also, there was travel insurance for the return of around 400,000 Won.
            The Labour Minister said that the government has encouraged Thai workers to work legally overseas ensuring full protection both before travel, during work and returning from abroad. Once at work it also provides continuous care, therefore if problems are experience abroad, for example, in the case of Mr. Prasert Kwanvari. He was a Thai national working in South Korea legally who accidentally fell off the bridge during construction of an expressway and died on April 16, 2019. Mr. Prasert, aged 28, from Nan province, worked with Samho Development from June 2018, In this regard, Mr. Prasert will receive benefits whereby the total amount is 4,144,462.34 Baht which the family must apply to collect later. The cost of managing the funeral in South Korea and sending the corpse back will be taken care of by Samho Development.
            The funds to help job seekers find work abroad helps and supports fund members to receive benefits and assistance in various cases, both before traveling to work abroad, while working and after returning from overseas. For example, in the case of being abandoned in a foreign country and moving back to Thailand or in the case of suffering from a disability (abroad) or death in a foreign country. The Labour Minister thus advised job seekers looking for work abroad to apply and become a member of the fund for such benefits.
