On October 4, 2021, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, to welcome the Chairman of the Social Workers Group, Mr. Chansin Subnonwai, in a meeting to follow up on the resolution to employees’ request for help from the Social Workers Group which related to the Ministry of Labour, with regards to promptly receiving benefits following labour protection law. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, and the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives also participated in the meeting at the Labour Relations Room, 1st floor, Ministry of Labour. Ms. Bubpha said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, cares about all employees and emphasizes support to alleviate the troubles of the workforce to receive equal rights under the labour protection laws from the government and the Ministry of Labour.
The proposals that the Social Workers Group discussed were as follows: 1) Follow up on the progress of the three requests (refund, request for a loan, and request to choose), especially on the issue of requesting loans to urgently alleviate the suffering of insured persons. 2) Request to enforce the law under Section 11/1 for the security of workers and/or consider eliminating unstable employment. 3) Request amendments to the law regarding the payment of the security guard’s wages for the time that exceeds 8 hours or the payment of wages for working on holidays equal to other employees. 4) Reporting in case of unemployment cannot be done from September to October 2021 when employees are concerned about the loss of benefits. 5) Complaints about labour inspectors in the Pathum Thani area who issued orders late for the case of employees who submitted complaints that the employer did not pay wages in lieu of advance notice and did not pay compensation. 6) The case of employees in Chonburi and Prachinburi who proposed the government to support. 7) Ask for advice on helping Brilliant employees in Samut Prakan Province, and 8) Request for advice on meeting many employees exploited by their employers, such as being ordered to write resignation letters, the relocation of employees to other branches where the employee is unable to travel, orders to stop work, quarantine without pay, and making a memorandum of agreement for temporary termination of employment requiring the employee to sign consent.
In this regard, the Ministry of Labour and related agencies will proceed in the relevant part and report the progress to the members of the Social Workers Group for further acknowledgment. The Labour Minister assigned the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour to donate 100 sets of consumer goods to Mr. Chansin Subnonwai and colleagues to help social workers affected by COVID-19.
