The Permanent Secretary of Labour revealed concern for Thai workers in Lebanon and ordered the Labour Ambassador from the Saudi Arabian Labour Office (Riyadh) to oversee Thai workers in Lebanon, which is their area of responsibility. He asked for them to monitor the situation closely to provide necessary assistance to those in need, following the explosion in the Lebanese city of Beirut. From initial findings, no Thai workers or Thai nationals have been found injured in any way.
Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol revealed concern for Thai workers going to work abroad, especially from the explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. He has ordered Commander Lieutenant Wittawat Koodprasert, Minister Counselor (on Labour), Office of Labour Affairs in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), whereby the Riyadh Office supervises the Thai workers in Lebanon. He has ordered relevant parties to closely monitor the situation and assist Thai workers who have been impacted by the explosion in Beirut, which caused extensive damage to houses in the inner city areas and shops at approximately 18.20 hours on August 4th. According to the report from the diplomatic workers of Riyadh Office, there were no Thai people or Thai workers injured or in the said incident.
Mr. Suthi further said that at present, there are more than 100 Thai workers working in Lebanon, as diamond cutters, Thai masseuses, spa workers, chefs, and cooks. The workers receive appropriate wages and welfare, whereby in Lebanon, there will be an honorary Thai consulate established.
“The Labour Minister is concerned for all Thai workers who go to work abroad, especially the livelihoods of Thai workers. Currently, the Ministry of Labour has Labour Ambassadors in 12 locations in 11 countries. From the explosions in Lebanon, Thai workers who have been impacted can contact the Labour Ambassadors who are stationed at the Labour Office and are ready to coordinate assistance and facilities for everyone to remain safe,” concluded Mr. Suthi.
