Content Description

The Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with CPF, has signed an MOU to promote and improve the quality of life of workers affected by Covid-19, enhancing the workforce potential in the sector following their needs, and in line with the labour market. The initiative will enhance the quality of life of workers to ensure professional stability.

On September 22, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, presided over the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Labour and CPF, coming together to overcome the crisis. The occasion took place on the 30th floor, CP Tower Building, Silom, Bangkok. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Charoen Pokphand Foods Mr. Adirek Sripratak, together with the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the event. The Labour Minister said that he was very happy and honoured to witness the MOU signing to promote and improve the quality of life of workers affected by Covid-19 between the Ministry of Labour and Charoen Pokphand Foods today. The Ministry of Labour has adopted the policy of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who values cooperation with the private sector, following the “Unite Thailand to Build a Nation” policy and putting it into action to join forces from all sectors to plan and determine the future of Thailand amidst the Covid-19 situation. The pandemic has resulted in labour problems from many companies’ layoffs and the unemployment of many workers. Furthermore, the nation faces issues in terms of cost of living and unemployment among new graduates entering the workforce, amounting to 400,000-500,000 people. Therefore, cooperation between the public and private sectors to solve problems and jointly drive the country is of great importance. The cooperation formed today is a great opportunity, whereby the company plans to recruit 28,000 graduates. This will allow Thai new graduates to have a stable job in the company, have a good career and consistent income, contributing to a strong economic foundation. In addition, the new graduates will gain skills development to enhance the restaurant entrepreneurship for SMEs that the company operates in, which will help build strength for Thai SMEs.

Mr. Suchart added that the cost of a living burden that affects the workforce is another problem that should be addressed by giving special discount coupons on food purchases, which is the fourth factor of living. It will be another project that will help alleviate the cost of living quickly. The Ministry of Labour would like to thank CPF for its cooperation in this project by recruiting employees who have recently graduated, which will enhance their knowledge of SMEs and also give special discounts to help the cost of living in the social security system. These are all promising projects that will help reduce the impact on Thai workers to drive the economy sustainably.
