The Assistant to the Labour Minister joined discussions with the Thai Massage Association and the Guide Association, to listen to issues in developing skills, upskilling/ reskilling, language skills and equipment-making in Thai massages, to meet the needs of the labour market and allow businesses to recover quickly after the COVID-19 situation subsides.
On June 10, 2020, Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng presided over the meeting with the Thai Massage Association and Guide Association upon request to meet and discuss the economic conditions and the impact of the COVID-19. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat, the Ministry of Labour’s executives and relevant officials also participated in this event, which took place at the Mitmaitree Meeting Room 2, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
The Assistant to the Labour Minister said that today, the Thai Massage Association and Guide Association met with the Ministry of Labour to work together, especially in the development of skilled workers, by upskilling/reskilling workers to match the needs of the current labour market. Initially, it will be a collaboration in training to increase the potential of massage workers such as hammering, herbal and hot compress methods, acupressure massage, and hot stone massages for example. In addition, the discussion will also develop language skills such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. These efforts follow the Labour Minister’s policies, in collaboration with the private sector to develop skills to meet the needs of business operators today, such as building a business brand, creating a smart farmer and creating smart SMEs, which is a course that can be sold as needed by the market.
Dr. Duangrit also discussed the need for the association to establish a standardized testing center for Thai massage skills. This can be done once certified by the Department of Skill Development.
