MOU Prepared to Boost Thai Culinary Professionals

             Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the meeting on guidelines to promote the ‘Thai kitchen to the world’ policy which took place at the Pakorn Angsusingh Conference Room at the Department of Skills Development. She said that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul assigned relevant units to excel development initiatives to drive Thai culinary professionals to international recognition. The government has also recognized the importance of promoting Thai culinary standards and has thus made the policy a priority, which will enable Thailand to become a culinary hub of the ASEAN region and world. Initiatives will promote standardized production processes to strengthening the identity of Thai culture for consumers to recognize Thailand’s identity.
             The Permanent Secretary continued that discussions with relevant public and private organizations was a good beginning to strengthening the Thai culinary industry by aligning directions on promoting Thai chefs to the world. The meeting also discussed a (draft) operational framework of each unit before the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is signed on 25 September 2017 at The Emerald Hotel on Ratchadapisek Road. The operational framework will support workforce training and promote skills development to align with market needs and enable Thai chefs to work anywhere in the world. The framework will also include skill standard assessments, language skills development and promote employment.
             The signing on collaboration aims to boost potential in the Thai culinary industry, as well as improve the quality of Thai restaurants both in Thailand and abroad. The efforts will also improve know-how and skills to meet the needs of the labour market and continue to develop society and the economy which will enhance overall national competitiveness.
