Office of Labour Affairs, Riyadh visits Thai workers and attends the sport game at Al-Khubar.

              On 31 December, 2010 – 1 January, 2011, Office of Labour Affairs, Riyadh by Chaiyot Yousub, Minister Counsellor (Labour), together with CPO1 Bancha Chuenchom, Labour Counsellor visited Thai community at Al-Khubar to give moral support and attend the sport games according to the mission of labour protection. Regarding the sport games, there were about 80 participants of Thai communities and families who came from Al-Khubar, and other nearby towns such as Jubail, Dammam, Qatif, and Jouf.

 

               In this regard, Office of Labour Affairs, Riyadh had inquired about the working and living conditions of workers. According to the interview, Most of those workers are more than 45 years old with good health condition and they are working in constructions, dressmaking, Thai restaurants, and Pepsi Company. Regularly, there are about 15 workers gathering into a group to play a Thai ball game at every Sunday which is regarded as Thai workers’ holiday. However, there was a complaint from a Thai worker who would like to return Thailand but could not negotiate with the employer on resigning allowance. Therefore, Office of Labour Affairs, Riyadh had asked Thai worker to submit related document in order to assist in negotiation with the employer. In addition to the event, Thai community had paid for a rental place about 2,500 Riyal and also had a meal together by bringing their food to join the event. The activities including sport games for children, and family and a Thai ball game for male workers were organized in order to promote unity among Thai community. Also, it was a great pleasure for Thai community that office of Labour Affairs had visited and joined the event.
