Content Description

On October 30, 2019, at 19.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the opening ceremony for the reception of the new Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Thailand, Ms. Vesna Rodic. The occasion took place at the Kamonthip Room, Sukosol Hotel, Sri Ayutthaya Road, Bangkok. The Permanent Secretary showed appreciation through the German Ambassador to Thailand, on the vision of President Friedrich Ebert, an important person in German history. He was an ideological leader who led society to balance and reconciliation, which led to the establishment of the foundation. The Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Thailand is a partner that supports the Ministry of Labour’s work, in the history and development of labour. It is an example of an important collaboration and the start of the Thai social security system, which would not have happened without tripartite cooperation among academics, non-governmental organizations and network labour partners.
Mr. Suthi said that Thailand is facing challenges and changes from situations and developments that are rapidly occurring in Thailand, the region and the world. Examples of changes include technological advances and waves of the 4th Industrial Revolution and development to Thailand 4.0 with the hope that Thailand will step out of the middle-income trap. In the past, the Ministry of Labour has collaborated with both domestic and foreign agencies to lay the foundations and drive labour operations to meet international standards. It also places importance on human resource preparation to support the 10 target industries and economic development in the EEC areas where it has established a personnel development center for automated production systems and robotics to equip workers with technology skills in line with the needs of the labour market.
“The most important and necessary component is the cooperation of all sectors, including the government, private sector, civil society organizations and academic departments, in working as a civil state. The Thai government and the Ministry of Labour have always placed importance to this issue by operating in a tripartite form, and to listen to opinions from network partners and stakeholders, to lead the country towards stability, prosperity, and sustainability,” concluded Mr. Suthi.
