Labour Minister’s Advisor Interviews on Measures to Support and Protect Thai Workers from COVID-19 and Assisting all Thai Workers

                The Labour Minister’s Advisor Interviewed on the “NBT Has the Answer” program, about measures to support Thai workers in South Korea to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He said that the Ministry of Labour is ready to help all Thai workers to be safe following the specified measures.

                Today (March 5, 2020) at 10.00 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet interviewed on the “NBT Has the Answer” program about measures to support Thai workers in South Korea to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The program is broadcasted on NBT channel 2HD. In the interview, the Labour Minister’s Advisor said that “the Ministry of Labour’s urgent measures follow the Prime Minister’s orders to closely monitor and take care of Thai workers residing in affected countries of COVID-19, and closely monitored countries by the Ministry of Public Health, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign. Measures to support Thai workers in South Korea to return to Thailand are divided into two groups: 1) Groups traveling from Daegu and North Gyeongsang, symptoms will be monitored in South Korea for 14 days. There will be screening before boarding and screening at the disease control station at the airport. If passengers are found to have a fever, they will be repatriated according to the procedures by the Ministry of Public Health. But if there is no fever, transportation will be arranged to transport the group to a designated disease-controlled area for 14 days. 2) Groups traveling from other cities in South Korea, symptoms will be monitored in South Korea for 14 days. There will be screening before boarding and screening at the disease control station at the airport. If passengers are found to have a fever, they will be repatriated according to the procedures by the Ministry of Public Health. But if there is no fever, transportation will be arranged to transport the group to a designated disease-controlled area for 14 days.”

                “Thai people in South Korea, including the relatives of the Thai workers, can be confident in the government’s measures to support Thai workers in South Korea. The Ministry of Labour and related agencies will work closely together to help all Thai workers to be safe according to various measures as specified. Thai workers can report to the Korean Immigration Agency to make a voluntary return to Thailand, as the Korean immigration will not prosecute charges of fleeing into the city or for working without a permit. Workers will not be blacklisted, and when returning to Thailand, all Thai workers will be well looked after by the Thai government following the prescribed measures, so that everyone can return to their home to continue to work and progress in their career.”

“In this regard, the Ministry of Labour would like to stress that the workers wishing to travel to work abroad, do so through the five legal channels, including 1) recruitment agencies 2) the Department of Employment’s arrangements 3) self-arrangements 4) employers in Thailand who send their employees for training and 5) employers in Thailand who deploy employees abroad. Thai workers can ask for more information at the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 hotline, press 2 for the Department of Employment,” concluded the Labour Minister’s Advisor.
