Content Description

The Permanent Secretary of Labour signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Japanese Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the National Police Agency, to promote opportunities for Thai workers to work with 14 professional fields in Japan.

On February 4, 2020, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on a Basic Framework for Information Partnership for Proper Operation of the System Pertaining to Foreign Human Resources with the Status of Residence of Specified Skilled Worker. This is due to the fact that the Japanese government has changed the immigration policy in accordance with the fast-growing economic sector, including assigning a new type of residency to foreign workers in Japan, calling it “specialized worker” to try to attract 345,000 foreign workers into Japan by 2025. The initiative aims to reduce the shortage of labor in 14 professions such as agriculture, construction, hotel services and care for the elderly, while proposing to create a Memorandum of Cooperation with many countries, including Thailand.

On this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of Labour led the Thai Delegation to discuss matters with Ms. Shoko Sasaki, the commander of the Immigration Office, Ministry of Justice in Japan, regarding the promotion of the delivery and recruitment of skilled workers from Thailand to work in Japan. The collaboration aims to bring maximum benefit to the transfer of technical skills and strengthen labour relations between the Ministry of Labour and the government agencies of Japan, which is part of helping to achieve economic cooperation between the two countries in achieving their goals.
