PM and Deputy PM Concerned About JSL Employees Instructs Labour Minister to Urgently Provide Support

          The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, received a letter from JSL Global Media Co., Ltd. employees, who asked for the Ministry of Labour’s help to provide the benefits under the labour law following the layoff. Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office, performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion at the foyer on the ground floor, Ministry of Labour.

          Mr. Suchart said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, are concerned about the employees. They urged the Ministry of Labour to urgently support the employees to receive benefits and protection under the law. On the progress as of yesterday, the Bangkok Labour Protection and Welfare Office Area 4 sent a letter inviting the employers to a meeting. They already posted the notice at JSL Global Media Co., Ltd. for the meeting 15 days after today. By law, if the employer does not show up, the Labour Inspector will collect evidence by instructing the employer to pay wages, compensation in lieu of advance notice, and compensation for annual vacation. This shall be expedited within 30 days of receiving the order. When the Labour Inspector has issued the order, it will be sent to the employer. If not found, they will use the method of closing the order. If the employer does not comply with the order, the Labour Inspector will be prosecuted by the investigating officer. The Department of Employment facilitated the registration of unemployment reports for employees. They reported 59 people out of a total of 93 people. Some companies have reached out to the impacted employee. Initially, two employees applied for new jobs in creative and editor positions. They also received a request from Home Product Center PCL that the company is willing to recruit the terminated JSL employees, as HomePro currently has over 90 vacancies. Gunkul Engineering PCL also wishes to help recruit staff in finance and accounting positions.

A thank you to Dr. Thiti Sawangtham, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, for bringing a team of doctors and staff to help employees. They have provided advice and knowledge on how to take care of the employees’ physical and mental health to relieve their worries, and have encouraged the employees to get through the situations,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
