The Labour Minister commenced the seminar and special lecture on “The New Generation and the Thai Workforce” in partnership with SOS Children’s Village Thailand and private companies to produce quality workers into the workforce, reduce societal inequalities and leave no one behind.
On October 5, 2018, at 11.00 hours in Ballroom 2 of the Intercontinental Hotel Bangkok, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the commencement ceremony for the “Youth Can!” Seminar 2018 and gave a special lecture on “The New Generation and the Thai Workforce”. On behalf of the Thai government under leadership of Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, he thanked the SOS Children’s Village Thailand for its focus on children who lost their parents and family, by providing an inclusive environment like a “permanent replacement family”, where the foundation ensures the children are provided with physical and emotional warmth and educational support to the best of the children’s capabilities. He said that the center also provides moral and career support, so the children can care for themselves and their families and become a good citizen of the country, through faithful upbringing. There are currently 700 permanent children living in the SOS Children’s Village from all over the country, including Samut Prakan, Songkhla, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai and Phuket.
The “Youth Can!” Seminar 2018 was arranged by the SOS Children’s Village, private companies and the Ministry of Labour in partnership, to prepare youths for the workforce in alignment with labour market needs by having the necessary professional skills and training. The seminar was also arranged to promote employment opportunities for the SOS Children’s Village youths, which will propel quality resources into the Thai workforce through mechanisms to reduce society inequality and promote inclusion in line with government policy.
“For the SOS Children’s Village’s youths to enter the workforce, the Ministry of Labour sees that in addition to learning from the educational system, to be quality resources in the workforce requires two important skills that can give an advantage over other entrants, they are: 1) Intellectual skills which includes English, IT, calculations, creativity, problem solving, expertise / professional skills and 2) Behavioral tactics which includes leadership, time management, communication, socialization, adaptation and teamwork. Every youth must pay attention to the changing world and continuing to learn and develop professional skills for the future. The public and the private sectors will also be involved in promoting and enhancing labour skills / capacities to achieve high potential resources and an improves quality of life,” concluded Pol.Gen. Adul.
