On October 11, 2018, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the commencement and witnessed the signing ceremony of the “Creating a Safety Culture in Schools” MOU and awarded 556 qualified institutions for 2018, which took place at the Field Marshal P. Pibulsongkram Conference Room on the 5th floor of the Ministry of Labour. He said that the Ministry of Labour has given great importance to the implementation of safety, occupational health and the working environment by driving the ministry’s “Safety Thailand” policy which aims to create a preventative safety culture and reduce accidents at work by raising awareness and improving behaviours that do not pose a risk to life, physical or mental wellbeing. This is also done by preparing students, giving them the knowledge, understanding and awareness about safety before entering the workforce, through school activities that emphasize safety.
Pol.Gen. Adul added that there are currently more than 1,000 schools nationwide, comprising over 1,275,638 students, teachers, professors and personnel; today, 556 qualified institutions were awarded. He explained that the collaboration would benefit students to professors and personnel in helping to strengthen security and a sustainable preventative safety culture within schools, as well as achieving the national agenda in line with government policy on “keeping workers safe and healthy”.
The signing of the MOU on “Creating a Safety Culture in Schools” is a collaboration between 9 units including the Department of Local Administration, the Office of the Basic Education Commission, the Office of the Higher Education Commission, the Office of the Vocational Education Commission, the Office of the National Primary Education Commission, the Provincial Administration Organization Council of Thailand, the National Municipal League of Thailand, the Subdistrict Administration Organization Association of Thailand and the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare. The initiative aims to create a culture of safety within schools and further drive the “Safety Thailand” policy to implementation.
