The Labour Minister led an exhibition to create awareness on the project to create employment for the elderly. He met with the Prime Minister at the Government Houses and was delighted that both private and public sectors positively accepted the elderly employment policy. For 2019, the aim is for 100,000 elderly people to have the skills, profession and income to reduce inequality and promote self-reliance for a better quality of life.
On March 26, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo welcomed Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Pravit Wongsuwan, on a viewing of an exhibition to create awareness on the Ministry of Labour’s project to create employment and careers for the elderly. The occasion took place at the foyer on the 1st floor, Command Building 1, Government Houses, before the Cabinet’s meeting. The ministry’s senior executives also joined the welcoming.
On this occasion, Gen. Prayuth visited OTOP product display booths of woven fabric bags and watched a demonstration on decorating items with ribbons. He also spoke with the elderly and urged the Ministry of Labour to continue the civil state project to create work and careers for the elderly continuously, to prepare for the transition to an elderly society.
Pol.Gen. Adul said that the Ministry of Labour recognizes the importance of creating jobs for the elderly, following the 3A policy. The Department of Skill Development has worked with other agencies from both the public and private sectors in a civil state form to open vocational training for the elderly to improve their quality of life, utilize their time to their benefit and allow them to socialize and meet people, which is beneficial to both physical and mental health. Furthermore, it allows people to have a job that suits their age and experience, creating self-pride and self-reliance, and helps reduce the burden of families and the public sector on social welfare.
The ministry has also received cooperation in setting up booths in companies that employ elderly workers, following the Department of Employment’s project on promotion of employment for the elderly. Companies include Big C Supercenter, Ek-Chai Distribution Systems or Tesco Lotus and Mac Thai or McDonald’s Thailand for example. The integration with the government and public sector will help reduce disparity, promote a better quality of life and develop professional skills for the elderly to be self-reliant and have a better quality of life.
