“Pol.Gen. Adul” Observes Standard Skills Assessment in Thai Culinary to Drive Thai Chefs Worldwide

                 The Labour Minister and committee observed the national skills standards assessment session in the Thai culinary field in Germany, to resolve the shortage of Thai cooks in foreign countries. The initiative also aims to expand the Thai labour market, enhance opportunities, publicize Thai food to be known among an international audience and raise the level of Thai restaurant businesses to be better known.

 

          On February 2, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo; Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark; Director of the Department of Employment, Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy; Director of the Department of Skill Development, Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and committee observed the national skills standards assessment session in the Thai culinary field, hosted by the Department of Skill Development in Hausach, Germany. The visit and observations aimed to resolve the shortage of skilled workers in Thai culinary professions in foreign countries, expand the Thai labour market abroad by enhancing opportunities to advance professionally and have necessary skills standards in foreign countries, as well as to publicize Thai food and the Thai restaurant business to have a better reputation abroad.
          Currently, around 25,000 Thai people are residing in Germany. There are over 600 Thai restaurants, whereby the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development has assessed the national skills standards in Thai culinary at level 1 capacity, between February 2-3, 2019, with the goal of evaluating 20 Thai people who live in Hausach. Since 2011-2018, 1,335 skilled workers have been assessed. From this, 158 people passed the skills assessment in Thai culinary, whereas the remaining were assessed in Thai traditional massage and Sappaya. At present, the Thai workers earn an average of 40,000 Baht monthly.
