The Labour Minister released a line of workers to check the work of migrants and organizations, to propel policies to solve human trafficking problems sustainably.
On February 27, 2019, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the release of officers working on the examination migrants and organizations, with Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark along with the ministry’s top which also attended this event and the foyer on the ground floor of the Ministry of Labour. The Labour Minister said that the current problem of illegal migrant workers and human trafficking is an issue that the government gives importance to, especially human trafficking which Thailand has tried to resolve and has succeeded in solving to international recognition. Efforts have included cooperation from all sectors including government agencies, private companies or NGOs, to enforce the law following the intention to suppress illegal migrant workers and human trafficking. The government has a policy for the Ministry of Labour together with the Royal Thai Police to strictly inspect foreign workers according to the law and continuously report results to the Prime Minister.
Pol.Gen. Adul said that inspection staff on the work of migrants and companies must perform duties with integrity, transparency and measurability. Inspections must also be free of claims for benefits and exploitation of migrant workers. The Labour Minister also asked that inspectors perform duties efficiently and safely.
Results of previous work include registration of migrant workers in 2018 following the Cabinet’s resolution at the One Stop Service Center, totaled 1,187,803 people with laws enforced since July 1, 2018. Inspections have been conducted on a total of 14,129 cases comprising employers/establishments with 908 cases prosecuted. 245,775 migrant workers were investigated with 5,138 people indicted. 1,956 migrant workers had taken jobs for Thai people, whereby 564 people were prosecuted. A total of 5,012 migrant workers were returned to origin countries, totaling a fine of 25,199,200 Baht, considered a contribution of all sectors on driving the policy.
