“Pol.Gen. Adul” Reports Overall Status on “Happy Songkran, Happy Worker” 2019

             The Labour Minister reported the overall results of the “Happy Songkran, Happy Workers” activity for 2019, whereby over 330,000 migrant workers traveled home to join the Songkran tradition and returned. The technician clinic project served over 12,000 people nationwide over 11 million Baht in compensation benefits was paid to insurers in the Social Security system who experienced traffic accidents.

 

 

             On April 22, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo reported the overall results of the ministry’s “Happy Songkran, Happy Workers” 2019 activities. He said that migrant workers returning home during the Songkran festival from April 5-20, 2019, showed records of over 330,898 people, comprising 210,998 people departures and 119,900 arrivals. Myanmar nationals traveled the most with 187,053 people, followed by 70,618 Cambodian nationals and 73,227 Laotian nationals. Immigration points with the highest number of departures and arrivals were in Tak with 148,023 people, followed by Sa Kaeo with 44,963 people, Ubon Ratchathani with 26,821 people, Mukdahan with 26,578 people and Chanthaburi with 21,495 people.

             Pol.Gen. Adul also reported the results of the Department of Skill Development’s technician clinic project to campaign prevention of road accidents during the Songkran festival in 2019. Data as of April 18, 2019, found that the clinic served up to 12,845 people, comprising administrative activities before the festival between April 2-10, 2019, consisting of safe driving training 367 times, maintenance training 489 times, condition assessment and maintenance of 461 cars and 731 motorcycles. Services during the festival on April 11–17, 2019, consisted of checking and repairing 2,449 cars, and1,196 motorcycles, Thai massage services 145 times, distribution of 4,544 drinking water bottles, 1,805 cold towels and routes recommended 658 times.

             As for cases of insured persons who experienced traffic accidents during the Songkran festival between April 11-17, 2019, reports from Social Security Offices across the country found that there were 2,414 injured insurers and 50 deaths. A total of 1,445,781.05 Baht was paid in medical benefits, 1,560,000.00 Baht in funeral expenses, 3,100,112.80 Baht in allowances, 4,923,551.66 in pension pay, totaling 11,029,445.51 Baht. From the number of insured persons who suffer from traffic accidents during the Songkran Festival from 2014 – 2019, it was found that this year, the number of injured persons decreased from the previous year by 4.64 percent, but the death toll increased by 2.04 percent.
