The Labour Minister reported that the Thai Ambassador in Seoul met with Thai workers traveling to work in South Korea through the EPS system showing appreciation for the commitment to learn Korean and ability to pass the assessment, with goals to earn income for the family. The Ambassador also reiterated the use of voting rights outside the Kingdom.
On February 14, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo spoke about the reports he received from the Labour Department of the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. He said that the 190 Thai workers traveling to work in Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS), most of whom work in the industrial sector, were trained by the Department of Employment and received a testimony from the Labour Minister and Permanent Secretary Labour on February 11. The workers all arrived in South Korea on February 12, and attend training before work at the KLF Training Center in Jeju, Gyeonggi for three days to learn the labour laws, regulations and lifestyle in South Korea, before employers came to take the workers for work under employment contracts.
The Labour Department at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul reported that Ambassador of Thailand, Mr. Singthong Lapisatepun, together with Labour Attache, Ms. Pinyuda Chamchansi and staff traveled to the KLF Training Center in Jeju, Gyeonggi, with Mr. Jung Sik Lee, Secretary General of KLF (Korea Labour Foundation), Mr. Hyon Bac Ha, Director of Foreign Workers and the KLF staff team. Mr. Singthong welcomed the visiting team and discussed and exchanged ideas with Mr. Jong Sik Lee on the issue of selecting Thai workers from the EPS and the relationship between South Korea and Thailand in various dimensions. The Ambassador also listened to briefings on the role of the KLF, after which he gave a speech to Thai workers who were trained before entering the industry. He said that he admired the commitment and intent to learn Korean and pass the assessment until being chosen to travel to work with the goal of earning money to raise families and is another way to help the national economy from the money sent home.
Mr. Singthong further said that working in Korea is a task that requires hard work, some of which may be in environments with more intense sounds and smells than usual; therefore workers must have patience and use equipment to prevent accidents from working. He said that workers would also need to prepare to cope with colder climate conditions than Thailand and maintain a healthy physical and mental health; more importantly, to not be involved in any vice. If there is a problem, he said to contact the Labour Department at the embassy or the foreign worker support centers in various areas, following the channels and telephone numbers provided in the handbook. On this occasion, he gave blessings to all Thai workers to be successful in everything that is hoped for, to stay healthy heart and work smoothly until the end of the contract. He also reminded the workers to use voting rights outside the Kingdom from March 4-16, 2019 as announced by the embassy, by registering until February 19.
KLF Secretary-General Mr. Jong Sik Lee praised the Thai workers for their integrity, diligence, patience, and for making them popular among Korean employers. He said that Thai workers are also the pride of KLF and requested that all Thai workers succeed with return income to the country as intended.
