The Labour Minister visited Lamphun to sustainably create jobs, generate income, develop civil society, provide career guidance, promote employment and develop skills of inmates before being released, to contribute to the nation’s stability.
On March 6, 2019, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo and Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark observed labour activities for employees and migrant worker management within VPF Group (1973) located at 130/1 Moo 16, Tha Sob Sao, Mae Tha, Lamphun. The organization is in the swine production and distribution business, with 590 employees consisting of 315 Thais and 131 Burmese employees. Migrant workers are entitled to company welfare equal to the entitlements of Thai workers, aside from legal requirements.
The Labour Minister presided over the opening ceremony of “creating sustainable employment, career development and civil society” at the Lamphun Provincial Administrative Office. The Labour Minister said that the ministry has a mission to manage labour which is essential for national development. It relates to security, the economy and psychological dimensions, laying a solid foundation in labour which is an essential mechanism for national development. The ministry encourages all groups of Thai people to have work that is suitable for their potential, career and income, including the continuous improvement of skills and competencies to match international standards. It also monitors foreign workers entering the Kingdom to ensure compliance with the country’s laws, which is the foundation for national development towards stability, prosperity and sustainability.
The Labour Minister presented a trophy and certificate to establishments that promote and support employment of people with disabilities, namely Murata Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a company that complies with labour laws and VPF Group (1973) Co., Ltd., on excellent management of foreign workers. The one district, one community, universal social security project award was given to Baan Nam Dib Noi, Pa Sang, Pa Sang, Lamphun and Ban Ko Tha, Kor, Li, Lamphun. Exciting activities include meeting the workforce which had 30 participating establishments, 3,000 vacancies, 40 independent career demonstrations, exhibitions from agencies under the Ministry of Labour and related agencies on the promotion of employment, an exhibition showcasing and selling products from home worker, informal worker and elderly worker groups, namely the Baan Kor Khoi bag making community enterprise group which produces leather and cloth bags, and the U Mai Thai Group which weaves silk into flowers. The event also gave advice to those who want to work at home and sold cheap products and the best OTOP products in Lamphun, provided free mobile health check services from Lamphun Hospital and Hariphunchai Memorial Hospital to Lamphun insurers and provided free motorcycle oil change services.
In the afternoon, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo visited the implementation of the Pracharat project to create work for inmates at the Lamphun Provincial Prison, located at 212, Village No. 10, Rim Ping, Mueang, Lamphun. In 2019, the Ministry of Labour will focus on the eight critical policies on promoting employment and skills development for inmates, driven by the framework of cooperation following the MOU. This included an aim to provide career guidance to 140 inmates before release whereby reaching 465 people, promotion of employment and skills development in organizations aimed for 150 inmates whereby reaching 1,206 people and skills development activities by the Department of Skills Development aimed for 20 inmates whereby reaching 42 people. For work done in prison, 957 male inmates had work, including 557 people in vegetable basketry, 303 people in stitching brooms, 31 people in the embroidery of native fabrics and 66 in local sewing jobs. Meanwhile, 249 female inmates had work, including 211 people in the embroidery of native fabrics, 19 in local sewing jobs and 19 people in paper modeling. Furthermore, the Labour Minister and committee visited the Job Box too.
Lamphun province currently has 255,632 people in the workforce, 1,619 unemployed workers and 75 seasonal workers. There are also 10,464 legal foreign workers and 2,889 organizations registered under social security with 83,629 people.
