The Labour Minister and committee visited SLV Mannhiem on welding workforce development, to support the industry 4.0 and develop workers in the 10 targeted industries in special economic zones.
On February 1, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo; Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark, Director of the Department of Employment, Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy, Director of the Department of Skill Development, Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and committee had a meeting with SLV Mannhiem, at their offices in Germany. On this occasion, the Labour Minister and committee studied and discussed important issues with Mr. Michael Schubert, Education Manager at SLV Mannhiem about the progress of welding work to support the industry 4.0, which includes a German welding skills certification system, a German training and test format, cooperation with the Department of Skill Development on training review, training for trainers in line with German standards and a study of the work layout and internship plan for example.
The Labour Minister said that since 1995, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development has worked with SLV Mannhiem in Germany to produce over 80 quality welders, whereby 24 were trained in Germany and 56 in Thailand. He said that training for trainers was especially important for development in welding as over 3,000 welders enter the workforce annually, both domestically and internationally. The intention of this visit was to study technological advancements in welding, whereby Germany is a model for the industry 4.0 which utilizes industrial automation. This has a positive impact on the Ministry of Labour to prepare and keep updated with technological progress, to apply to Thailand’s workforce development and exchange workers to train trainers for the Department of Skill Development and promote the network further.
SLV Mannhiem currently has 50 employees and many syllabuses for trainers both from the industry and universities. There are comprehensive materials in almost every field of welding technology, whereby the Ministry of Labour will take the experience to develop workforce potential, especially in welding to international standards. This is located within the Samut Prakarn Skill Development Institute 1, in assessment of welding work that has been approved by the agency to be a training center, certified by the International Welding Institute. The initiative follows the 20-yeae strategic framework on human resource development, ready to support workforce development in the 10 target industries in both the EEC and special economic zones.
