The Deputy Labour Minister and Acting Inspector-General of the Ministry of Labour joined the World Government Summit 2019 and Abu Dhabi Dialogue in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in cooperation to protect and improve the quality of life of workers as sending and receiving countries of labour.
Deputy Labour Minister Pol.Gen. Amnat Unardngam and Deputy Permanent Secretary and the Ministry of Labour’s Acting Inspector-General Mr. Somsak Apiwantakul, represented the Ministry of Labour at the World Government Summit 2019 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, between February 9-13, 2019, upon invitation by the UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The World Government Summit is an international meeting In the United Arab Emirates, held annually to provide a platform for government leaders, ministers, senior officials from the public and private sectors and leaders of international organizations around the world to exchange ideas and discuss issues related to the development and upgrading of the quality of life of the people. Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also joined the meeting which was held for the 7th time, with over 4,000 participants from 140 countries around the world.
The main topic in this year’s meeting was the “Future of Work” whereby the UAE government had invited ILO Director-General Mr. Guy Ryder to speak at the conference and join the discussion and briefing of the World Commission’s report on the Future of the Work. The report was created by the ILO on its 100th anniversary and launched in January 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland. The report highlights the changes that occurred in the world of work because of technological advances, changes in population structure, weather and globalization. The ILO emphasizes the importance of human resource development, social protection and tripartite cooperation, which will be vital in determining future labour policies.

Amnat Unardngam and committee also joined the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, a meeting between recipient and sender countries of labour, to prepare for the next Abu Dhabi Dialogue Ministerial Meeting in 2019, whereby the “Future of Work” is scheduled as the main topic. The UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation met to discuss bilateral agreements with the Deputy Minister of Labour, by discussing the UAE’s proposal to revise the memorandum of understanding between the Thai government and the United Arab Emirates on labour, signed together on November 1, 2007, to allow Thai workers to travel to work in the UAE to receive better protection.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Labour and committee also met Mrs. Viphawan Benniman, Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador of Thailand to Abu Dhabi to discuss the labour situation in the UAE and visited employer at the Thai restaurant “Desert Lotus” to give words of encouragement to Thai workers.
