Thailand-Turkey Join Bilateral Meeting to Discuss Cooperation on Promoting Worker Rights to Support Aging Society

         The Labour Minister and committee joined the bilateral meeting with the Turkey Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services to strengthen good relations, expand cooperation to promote labour rights and prepare to support the aging society.

 

 

         On September 1, 2019, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul and Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Phattana Phanfak joined a bilateral meeting with Turkish Minister of Family, Labour and Social Services, Madame Zehra Zumrut Zelcuk. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange approaches to promote labour issues on social security matters and preparation to support the aging society; Turkey announced 2019 as the National Elderly Year.
         The parties also discussed issues related to labour, such as the promotion of employment of people with disabilities. Turkey then praised Thailand as the ASEAN chair, in driving the establishment of the ASEAN Center for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI) as a research and knowledge exchange center on potential aging and innovation. The Minister of Labour expressed his appreciation for this bilateral meeting and showed Thailand’s position in promoting workers’ rights, including skills development for all ages, employment and social security. He gave concrete examples of implementation, namely the establishment of the EEC center under the Thailand 4.0 Strategic Plan to develop the capacity of the workforce. In the end, Turkey expressed its gratitude for the meeting and emphasized that Thailand and Turkey have a good relationship and therefore, sincerely hope that there will be opportunities to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Labour in the future.
