Wage Board Still to Finalize Figures and Will Assess Economic Factors Before New Calculations on December 6

             Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol as the Chairman of the 20th Wage Board, reported that the meeting had not finalized the minimum wage increase. He explained that the board would like to assess economic factors thoroughly, without affecting trade, product prices and exports. The board is also looking to increase competitiveness, reduce inequality, take care of employers and employees. The board will meet again on December 6.

 

 

           On November 20, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol as Chairman of the Wage Committee (Wage Board) gave a report after the 20th Wage Committee’s Meeting No. 5/2019. The meeting took place at the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The Permanent Secretary said that the Wage Committee meeting today included 3 representatives comprised of employers, employees, the government and experts. The meeting considered the framework of minimum wage increases nationwide and presented the employer’s ability to pay wage index, employee cost of living and expenses, including closely monitoring the economic movement. The atmosphere in the meeting was reconciled among all 3 parties.
           Mr. Suthi said that during this time, the committee would like to assess the economic direction to ensure the minimum wage increase is suitable and does not have a nationwide impact on domestic trade, product prices, international trade and exports. Furthermore, the board is also looking to increase competitiveness, reduce inequality, take care of employers and employees. The Wage Committee will meet again on December 6.
