On October 5, 2022, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, reported that the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security had coordinated internally with the Embassy in Helsinki, and the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 17 Thai workers who filed a complaint to the Finnish police for cases of forced labour, borrowing money from Thailand, bad accommodation and unfair wages. Today, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, assigned him and his team to pick up this group of Thai workers who have returned with a coordinator as the fruit-picking season has ended. The group will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 16.25 hours on Finnair flight AY 143. Seventeen workers complained out of a total of 209 returning workers. On October 4, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, joined the delegation of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, to visit the area, to monitor and resolve flooding issues and provide relief bags to support flood victims. The visit was to Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Provincial governors, heads of government agencies involved, labour volunteers, and community members in the area welcomed the delegation. Mr. Suchart said that Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, is concerned about the people affected by the floods. Therefore, all government agencies were instructed to work together to support flood victims. The Labour Minister has instructed the Ministry of Labour’s five agencies in every province to accelerate support with the province. The Provincial Offices/Institutes of Skill Development have supported vehicles transporting people whose houses were flooded to temporary shelters and deployed technicians to take care of the people and the relevant agencies. They also reported the results of the appeal hearing of the Appeal Committee from February 2021 to September 2022 at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour. The Social Security Office’s Appeal Committee was established under the Social Security Act B.E. 2533. It is responsible for considering appeals from employers, insured persons, or any other person dissatisfied with the order of the Secretary-General or the competent official giving orders under the powers and duties of the Appeal Committee. On October 1, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, Minister Counselor (on Labour), Ms. Sadudee Kittisuwan, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives visited 35 Thai workers at Kanemi, Matsudo Branch, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Mr. Akiyoshi Shonobe, President of Kanemi, the management team, and the Aifamily Cooperative Society, an organization that accepts technical interns, welcomed the delegation. Kanemi is in the ready-to-eat and frozen foods business. It consists of an outside sales business that produces and delivers food products for convenience stores. It also receives finished products as a home delivery service to consumer cooperatives in each region. Kanemi Foods Co., Ltd. started accepting foreign trainees for the first time in 2013. Currently, there are 781 trainees training in 12 sub-branch factories across the country. The Matsudo district branch recruited 35 technical interns and skilled workers.
