On October 12, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasatien, and the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General, Mr. Niyom Songkaew, were representatives in receiving a letter from Mr. Teerasak Phakdinopparat, a native of Udon Thani province, who led 22 berry-picking workers in Finland and 27 in Sweden, for a total of 49 people, to submit a letter to the Labour Minister to call on the Ministry of Labour to help in the case of unfair wages and welfare. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the shooting inside a child care center in Tambon Uthai Suwan, Na Klang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province, causing 37 deaths and ten injured people. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured in the shocking incident. The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, ordered the relevant agencies to urgently support the families of the deceased and wounded. The Labour Minister has instructed the Social Security Office to pay compensation benefits for the two deceased insured persons. The first person is Mr. Santi Prathumchai, an insured person under Section 33 and an employee of the Uthai Sawan Subdistrict Administrative Organization. He died while performing work duties. His beneficiaries will receive entitlements from the Compensation Fund, which includes funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, 120 months of compensation in the event of death amounting to 1,078,560 Baht, and old age pension of 35,226 Baht, totaling 1,163,786 Baht. On August 29, 2022, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the National Informal Workers Management Committee No. 1/2022. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, attended the meeting at the Ministry of Labour. General Prawit said that the government recognizes the importance of informal workers. There are new forms of employment, such as employment through platforms. The existing labour laws still do not cover some parts, resulting in some informal workers not having entitlements to the rights, protection, and welfare they should. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour was assigned to accelerate the draft bill promoting the quality of life and protection of informal workers. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the news in online media on August 26 that Mr. Prasit Sribunchan and Mr. Kobchokcheep Phosorn, Deputy Chairpersons of the Samran Subdistrict Administrative Council, Samchai District, Kalasin Province, who filed a complaint with the Kalasin Provincial Damrongtham Center, to help track down Mr. Prasit’s sister, Ms. Apinya Sribunchan, 41, back to Thailand. An agent recruited her to work in Thai massage in Dubai on July 20, 2022. She traveled with three female friends from nearby areas and eight from other provinces. She has been uncontactable for over 15 days, and there is fear that she was deceived into prostitution and unsafe. For this case, the Labour Minister received a report from Mrs. Plida Ruamkham, Ambassador Counselor (on Labour) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, that Ms. Apinya traveled on a tourist visa and went to work because she believed the agency that persuaded her to work in Thai massage. On August 7, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, with the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General, Air Chief Marshal Supaporn Yuwattana, to visit the area to give compensation to the family of Ms. Switta Chantha, an employee who died as a result of the fire at the Mountain B Pub. The visit took place at the Dan Krong Krang Temple, Non Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Ms. Bubpha said that Ms. Switta Chantha was an employee of the Mountain B Pub in Chonburi, working as a cashier. The Labour Minister noted that Ms. Switta, working as a cashier, likely died from carrying out her duties. The employer had not registered the employee for social security or the compensation fund.
