The Permanent Secretary of Labour Clarifies the Determination of the Wage Formula is Not Specified in Section 87 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 After Five Wage Committee Members Complained that the 22nd Board Resolution was Unlawful in “Adjusting the Calculation Formula to 400 Baht.”

On July 9, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, spoke about the case of the 2nd Wage Committee and a group of five people from the Employers’ Confederation of Thai Trade and Industry who submitted a petition to the Ombudsman requesting an investigation into the performance of his duties as it was observed that the meeting minutes of the 22nd Wage Committee Meeting No. 5/2024 on May 14, 2024, violated labour protection laws. This is because in the minutes of the meeting, there was a resolution to adjust the formula for calculating the new minimum wage to 400 Baht, and it was seen that the consideration of adjusting the said wage rate formula was a consideration that did not comply with Section 87 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541. Permanent Secretary of Labour Joins Discussions with the Israeli Minister of Labour on the Protection of Thai Workers and Expanding Opportunities in the Service Sector, Restaurant Staff, and Hospitality in Israel

          On May 27, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-Generals, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, joined the delegation of the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn to meet the Minister of Labour of Israel, Mr. Yoav Ben Tzur, to discuss a request of cooperation to increase care and protection for Thai workers working in green areas, and ensure that Thai workers receive benefits as required by law. They also discussed expanding branches for Thai workers to work in other fields, especially the service sector, restaurant staff, and hospitality, which are areas in which Thai people have expertise and outstanding potential. Labour Minister Travels to Israel to Discuss Care for Thai Workers and Emphasizes Speedy Payments of Aid for Completion within June

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, spoke about the progress in supporting Thai workers affected by the unrest in Israel. The Ministry of Labour has paid 50,000 Baht in aid under the relief project to 9,309 eligible people and their families out of the 9,384 applicants, representing 99.34 percent, for a total of 465,450,000 Baht. It has also paid money from the fund to help workers working abroad, from 9,892 people, from 11,101 people who applied, representing 97.93 percent, for a total of 144,270,000 Baht. The remaining documents are being processed and awaiting approval. In addition, those affected will receive financial assistance from the Israel National Insurance Institute. As for the latest figures, 41 Thai workers have died, and there are still six hostages being held. Of the people who died, 35 are entitled to receive financial assistance from the Social Security Fund. The Social Security Office has paid assistance of 1,367,860.70 Baht to the dependents. MOL Joins the National Climate Change Policy Committee Meeting No. 4/2022

           On December 7, 2022, at 10.46 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, to join the National Climate Change Policy Committee Meeting No. 4/2022 via Zoom Cloud Meetings.              On November 29, 2022, at 13.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, to chair the opening meeting to Review and Evaluate Thailand’s National Decent Work Plan 2019 – 2022 and the preparation of the new Thailand Decent Work National Plan 2023 – 2026. The meeting took place at the Kamolthip Room, Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. He said that the Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) is a cooperation framework that the ILO has established with member countries as a reference document for providing assistance and support to member countries. Labour Minister Assigns SSO to Accelerate Benefit Payments to the Itaewon Victim, a Former Insured Person under Section 33

            On November 1, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case’s progress, where one Thai person died from the tragedy at the Halloween Night Festival held in Itaewon Street, Seoul, South Korea, on the night of October 29.
