H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the meeting and gave a policy on driving the problem of labor trafficking at the meeting room of the Royal Thai Police. He said after the meeting to accelerate the drafting of the law and support the ratification of the Protocol under ILO Convention No. 29 on forced labor and draft / amend the law to support the ratification of ILO Convention 188 on Fisheries to be completed by the end of March 2018 to present to the National Assembly (NIA), and to improve the law to support the ratification of the ILO Convention No. 98 on the right to collective bargaining and negotiation. It will be completed by September 2018.
January 29, 2026, at 8.00 hours – Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, presided over the 100-day merit-making ceremony and an alms-giving to 10 monks and novices, dedicated as a royal merit to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, on the occasion marking 100 days since Her Majesty’s passing. Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, revealed that an earthquake with an epicentre off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture occurred yesterday (December 8, 2025) at approximately 23.15 hours local time in Japan (two hours ahead of Thailand), registering a magnitude of 7.2. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning of up to 3 metres along the coasts of Aomori, Iwate, and Hokkaido, and waves of approximately 1 metre along the coasts of Miyagi and Fukushima. Residents in these areas were advised not to approach coastal areas or river mouths until the warning was lifted. On December 9, 2025, at 02.30 hours, Japanese authorities ordered the evacuation of 114,092 people from the affected areas. Upon learning of the incident, the Labour Minister said she became deeply concerned about Thai workers in Japan and therefore instructed the Labour Attaché (Labour Affairs) and the Office of Labour Affairs in Japan to closely monitor the situation and continuously issue alerts to Thai workers through various communication channels, to ensure their maximum safety. October 8, 2025 — Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, has ordered an urgent investigation into the case of a Thai chef who reportedly died in Cambodia after being denied medical treatment. According to an initial report from the Social Security Office in Sa Kaeo Province, the deceased was a native of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and had previously been employed by a private limited partnership company in Thailand. Records show that the individual had made social security contributions for only two periods, the latest being in May 2024, with no further payments thereafter. A review of the Department of Employment’s database found no record of overseas employment registration, indicating that the individual had traveled to work abroad independently, without going through official channels of the Ministry of Labour. The person was also not a member of the Fund to Assist Job Seekers Working Abroad. As Thailand does not have a labour attaché stationed in Cambodia, the Ministry of Labour is awaiting further confirmation and detailed information from the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh. Mr. Pongkawin Jungrungruangkit, Minister of Labour, revealed that after receiving an urgent report from authorities in Chonburi Province regarding many Chinese and Myanmar migrant workers illegally employed at a plastic molding factory in Nong Bon Daeng Subdistrict, Ban Bueng District, he immediately instructed the Director-General of the Department of Employment to dispatch a special operations unit to the site. He also stressed the strict enforcement of labor laws. In addition, the Labour Minister ordered the establishment of a “Committee on the Inspection of Employment Conditions, Forced Labour, and Worst Forms of Child Labour among Migrant Workers” to ensure rigorous oversight across all dimensions, including unfair employment, forced labour or services, and child labour in its worst forms. The goal is to eliminate illegal labour practices. June 16, 2025 – Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, together with Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary of Labour, and senior officials from the Ministry, announced that due to escalating tensions in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Labour has been closely monitoring the situation under directives from Prime Minister Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The Ministry’s highest priority is ensuring the absolute safety of all Thai workers in the affected areas. Mr. Phiphat confirmed that Thai workers in both Israel and Iran are currently safe. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities. The Ministry of Labour has been able to establish contact with all Thai workers and will continue monitoring the situation around the clock to provide immediate assistance if necessary. As for the status of Thai workers in Israel, the latest data indicates a total of approximately 39,500 Thai workers, comprising around 33,000 legal workers and 6,500 undocumented workers. May 31, 2025 – Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, shared a media briefing following his response to questions during the House of Representatives budget deliberation on the 2026 Fiscal Year Budget Bill, affirming that he addressed all concerns raised by the opposition with clarity and precision. Mr. Phiphat stated that the increased 2026 Fiscal Year budget allocation for the Ministry of Labour will support key programs under the Department of Skill Development, including procurement of computer and AI systems.
