Unemployment Compensation Disbursed to Over 200,000 Insured Persons, Totaling 618 Million Baht; Minister Trinuch Instructs Social Security Office to Expedite Relief Payments

          Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, revealed that she has instructed the Social Security Office (SSO) to expedite the continuous disbursement of unemployment benefits to insured persons affected by unemployment. The latest report indicates that unemployment compensation payments totaling more than 618 million baht have already been disbursed to over 200,000 insured persons. She stated that previous delays in payment were due to the upgrading of the processing system. However, following improvements in both the IT system and administrative management, the SSO has been able to accelerate the disbursement process. Social Security Offices in all provinces have mobilized personnel and extended operating hours from 06.00 to 20.30 hrs. to expedite the review and approval of payment orders, with the capacity to process more than 35,000 cases per day. Secretary to the Minister of Labour Braves Floodwaters to Provide Relief Kits in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Supports 8 Crisis Provinces

On December 4, 2024, Mr. Aree Krainara, Secretary to the Minister of Labour, announced that Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn had instructed ministry executives to mobilize efforts across eight southern provinces affected by severe flooding. Mr. Aree was assigned to Nakhon Si Thammarat, where he and his team delivered 570 survival kits at two locations: Moo 1, Koh Thuat Subdistrict (325 kits) and Moo 3, Koh Thuat Subdistrict (245 kits). Additionally, another 100 kits will be distributed tomorrow to informal workers and self-employed individuals impacted by the floods, bringing the total assistance to over 700 kits. The Permanent Secretary of Labour Clarifies the Determination of the Wage Formula is Not Specified in Section 87 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 After Five Wage Committee Members Complained that the 22nd Board Resolution was Unlawful in “Adjusting the Calculation Formula to 400 Baht.”

On July 9, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, spoke about the case of the 2nd Wage Committee and a group of five people from the Employers’ Confederation of Thai Trade and Industry who submitted a petition to the Ombudsman requesting an investigation into the performance of his duties as it was observed that the meeting minutes of the 22nd Wage Committee Meeting No. 5/2024 on May 14, 2024, violated labour protection laws. This is because in the minutes of the meeting, there was a resolution to adjust the formula for calculating the new minimum wage to 400 Baht, and it was seen that the consideration of adjusting the said wage rate formula was a consideration that did not comply with Section 87 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541.
