On August 9, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, is concerned for the workforce and the general public amid the COVID-19 situation and has made COVID-19 vaccinations a national agenda. The Ministry of Labour has implemented a month-long lockdown of camp workers intending to vaccinate about 3,500 people daily from the 611 camps in Bangkok, comprising 83,082 workers, including 32,471 Thais and 50,611 foreigners.
Mr. Suchart said that today was the first day that the Ministry of Labour, together with hospitals in the social security network, the Ministry of Interior, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, opened the worker camp vaccination center at the West Sports Building 1, Bangkok Youth Center (Thai-Japan), Din Daeng District, Bangkok. The facility can vaccinate 2,000 people daily and is supported by a team of doctors and nurses from Vichaivej International Hospital, Samut Sakhon. There is another facility at Lumpini Tower on Vibhavadi Road, Chomphon, Chatuchak District, Bangkok. The facility can vaccinate 1,500 people daily and is supported by a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and medical personnel from Kasemrad Inter Hospital. Both worker camp vaccination centers will be available from August 9 to 31, except on Saturdays and Sundays.
“The COVID-19 vaccination in worker camps is one of the measures that the Ministry of Labour has prescribed for prevention and treatment, by expediting vaccinations to camp workers as per government policy to control the spread of COVID-19 and build immunity among workers. This is to build confidence for the general public to live in the community surrounding the worker’s camp, to strengthen the labour sector and help entrepreneurs to move forward with their business,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
