Content Description

Mr. Ananchai Uthaiwattanachep, The Director General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, has launched a study on the hazardous working conditions for children in Thailand to review the comparative law, standards and guidelines for the management, control and protection of children. It aims to investigate and assess the risks, characteristics and practices of child labor, identify risk factors, and analyze the dangers of work characteristics. According to the study, developed countries have two types of legislation, namely, hazardous jobs that are prohibited and lighter jobs that allow children to do so. This is different from the laws of Thailand that prohibit children to do and work that children do. The type of business has not been specified yet. While child labor surveys and risk assessments found that job characteristics should be more dangerous for children and children are not employed, such as oil level gauging and LPG filling in retail, petrol, motorbike, food & beverage, material delivery, air conditioning in construction, and laundry in hotel services.
The results of the study also show that working at a height of 7 meters or more and working at temperatures above 32 degrees Celsius and working beyond 22.00 can be dangerous and also affects the health of children. The results of this research will be of great benefit to the development of child labor safety in Thailand in order to improve the quality of life.
