Deputy Labour Minister Drives Groups to Support People with Disabilities

          On March 3, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat chaired the subcommittee meeting on driving skills development for people with disabilities to help vulnerable groups. The meeting took place at the Pakorn Angsusingh Meeting Room, 10th floor, Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labour.
          Prof. Narumon said that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan care about the people, especially vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with state welfare cards. The Ministry of Labour was assigned to expedite assistance to ensure that the workers in this group are cared for thoroughly, covering all areas and being fast and meeting the needs. Today’s meeting was a discussion of the subcommittee on driving skills development for people with disabilities to support the occupation, whereby the meeting was the first of the year.
          The meeting reported the results of promoting enterprises and government agencies to act following the Person with Disabilities Empowerment Act B.E. 2550 and its amendment (No. 2) B.E. 2556, the implementation of the Quality of Life Promotion and Development Fund for the Disabled, and the criteria from borrowing from the fun. The meeting also discussed the arrangement of the 10th Abilympics Thailand, which will take place from May 7-8, 2021, at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, for a total of 15 competition branches. Other topics were proposed in the meeting to consider, including the preparation of a Skill Development Plan for People with Disabilities to Support Occupation (2021 – 2027), a proposal for a project under the plan/project to revive the economy and society, to authorize the Ministry of Finance to borrow money to address the economic problems and social healing and restoration caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It also discussed inviting companies to partake in CSR to support people with disabilities.
          The Deputy Labour Minister said that this subcommittee was appointed by the National Vocational Training Coordination Committee (NVTCC) to jointly find ways to develop skills for people with disabilities, including employment for people with disabilities. Representatives from many ministries such as those from higher education, the Secretary-General of the Vocational Education Commission, the Department of Social Development and Welfare, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Division of Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life for Persons with Disabilities and various associations related to people with disabilities. There are also representatives of agencies under the Ministry of Labour as a subcommittee, including the Director-General of the Department of Employment and the Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare. The Director-General of the Department of Skill Development was the Secretariat of the subcommittee.
          “Every sector must be involved to drive support for people with disabilities and their caregivers, to allow more access to government services, to ensure fairness and reduce social inequality. The operation must be carried out on an ongoing basis. We wish for all parties to work together cohesively for the benefit of the people,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
