The Deputy Prime Minister chaired the meeting of the National Informal Labour Management Committee No. 1/2020. He urged all relevant departments to work together to provide the informal sector with a good life and social equality.
On March 19, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the meeting of the National Informal Labour Management Committee No. 1/2020. Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s executive committee and representatives from relevant parties attended the meeting, which took place at the Prof. Nikom Chandravithu conference room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
General Prawit said that the meeting of the National Informal Labour Management Committee today was meeting No. 1/2020. The objective was for all committee members to be informed of the cabinet resolution that approved the appointment of the National Informal Labour Management Committee, the informal labour situation and past performance under the informal labour management plan 2017 – 2021. Important issues that were considered today was the approval of the draft action plan for 2020 under the action plan for the Management of Informal Labour 2017-2021 and the appointment of a sub-committee to coordinate and drive the policy on the management of informal labour to achieve the government’s goal of improving the quality of life of all groups of people, without leaving anyone behind.
General Prawit said further that informal workers are considered the country’s largest population in the workforce. They are generally workers with a low income, who must work hard and face various problems such as receiving low remuneration from work, unemployment, lack of social security or lack of occupational health and safety measures. Therefore, the challenge of the government today is to find solutions and manage the large informal labour groups to have careers, employment, relevant skill sets, increased income as well as to ensure social security and stability for a sustainably good life, including access to opportunities and social equity. He instructed all departments to expedite the implementation of the action plan, which has an agreement to continue together.
