Deputy PM Urges National Vocational Training Coordination Committee to Develop Workforce Skills and Equal Opportunities for the Economic Foundation Amid the New Normal

          On April 23, 2021, at 10.00 hours, at Meeting Room 301 on the 3rd floor, Command Building 1, Government Houses, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan chaired the meeting of the National Vocational Training Coordination Committee Meeting No. 3/2021. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, including government and private agencies, also joined the meeting.

          General Prawit said that the National Vocational Training Coordination Committee has the authority to formulate policies and guidelines for labour development and to coordinate the vocational training of the nation’s workforce in all dimensions. The committee’s operations are therefore extremely important. Today’s meeting had an important agenda, considering the names of experts in the Provincial Vocational Training Coordination Subcommittee and the development and strengthening of the economic foundation under local and community economic rehabilitation programs/projects on an opportunity basis and local potential in the area. The effort enables all Thai workers to create jobs and occupations and drive the economy and society under a new equitable way of life. The meeting also urged the Ministry of Labour to integrate and work on developing the labour potential for occupational skills, increasing competitiveness, and restoring the economic foundation.

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that today’s meeting had important agendas. It acknowledged the implementation of three subcommittees, namely, the Subcommittee on Labour Development and Coordination of Occupational Training in S-curve Target Industries, the Subcommittee on Skill Development for the Handicapped to Support Occupation, and the Subcommittee for Skill Development of State Welfare Card Holders. In addition, the meeting considered the list of qualified persons in the Provincial Vocational Training Coordination Subcommittee and the development and strengthening of the economic foundation under local and community economic rehabilitation programs/projects on an opportunity basis and local potential in the area.

          “Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan who oversees the Ministry of Labour has assigned the Department of Skill Development by the Institute for Skill Development and the Office of Skill Development to prepare a detailed project to promote and develop skills (upskill, reskill and new skill), to deliver to provincial offices to proceed following the specified steps. The efforts aim to create jobs, occupations and strengthen the foundation of the economy for the people, disadvantaged groups, vulnerable groups, and the elderly. It asks for the Ministry of Interior’s cooperation to inform provincial offices of the importance of considering the work plan/project to promote and develop skills (upskill, reskill, and new skills) at the Institute of Skill Development, the Office of Skill Development and provincial government agencies and local government organizations to continue to propose as an urgent case,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
