On September 2, 2021, at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the Ministry of Labour’s management team, comprising the Department of Employment’s Director-General Phairoj Chotikasathian, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Pattraporn Samantarat, the Department of Skill Development’s Inspector-General Mrs. Weeraya Rattananit, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Inspector-General Mr. Somphot Kwangkaew, the Social Security Office’s Inspector-Generals Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisakyothin and Ms. Ladda Saelee and the Director of the Office of International Cooperation Ms. Chuleerat Thongthip welcomed Ms. Géraldine Ansart and staff from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on a courtesy call via teleconference. The occasion occurred at the Permanent Secretary of Labour’s meeting room, 7th floor, Ministry of Labour.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Labour and IOM discussed the impact of Thailand’s latest wave of the COVID-19 outbreak on migrant workers and employers and measures to assist migrant workers and employers. The IOM shared that they are ready to work and support the Ministry of Labour in various forms, such as providing support for the preparation of a manual to assess the impact of the epidemic on the lives of migrant workers, providing policy recommendations for the short, medium and long-term, to organize training activities and share knowledge on issues related to migrant workers, and to provide emergency assistance to migrant workers affected by lockdowns and temporary closures, and other support.
