Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the results from the JOB EXPO THAILAND 2020, hosted on September 26-28, 2020. The event received 243,566, which are waiting for placement. There were 143,066 applications via employer/company opening job applications at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center, BITEC, 81,412 applications through the Thaimeengarntum.com website, and 3,351 registered persons wishing to work abroad. For the new employment promotion program for new graduates (Co-payment), there are 181,145 remaining positions, with the highest employment demand in production, with 192,291 positions.
Mr. Suchat said that the overall outcome was very satisfactory. From exhibitors’ feedback, most felt that the event was beneficial, convenient, and saved time. Many government agencies, state enterprises, and private companies arranged booths for recruitment, allowing applications to submit documents and interviews with employers/companies. The exhibitors showed appreciation for the event and requested that the Ministry of Labour hosts it annually. In addition to recruiting jobs, employers had the opportunity to introduce their organizations to that job seekers know and understand them better. Over the three-days, there are 125,383 participants nationwide, in which 104,933 people attended the exhibition at BITEC Bangna Exhibition and Convention Center. A total of 20,450 people attended at the Provincial Employment Offices. Students were the largest group that visited the event. Now there is the new employment promotion program for new graduates (Co-payment) wit 260,000 positions. A total of 78,855 positions were received from 1,048 employers; there are still 181,145 vacancies waiting to be filled. The top five positions that employers need are 1. Production with 192,291 positions 2. Marketing/PR with 60,890 positions 3. Clothing/textiles/pattern technicians with 32,625 positions. 4. Graphic/design/ drawing with 32,024 positions 5. Construction with 30,307 positions and other occupations with 345,470 positions. Positions with the top five applicants were: 1. Administration/ general management with 10,709 applications 2. Marketing/PR with 10,074 applications 3. Services/managers with 9,294 applications 4. Engineers with 7,242 applications 5. Production staff with 6,968 applications and others with 37,125 applications. From the statistics, production work still requires the most workers.
A survey of participants found that 55 percent of the participants knew about the JOB EXPO THAILAND 2020 from public relations via social media, followed by friends/relatives and television media. People who attended the event said that they wanted the government and the Ministry of Labour to organize this event every year, especially in September, when there are new graduates. Respondents also voiced that they want it to be held for five days, as it is a suitable time to allow students and the public to have more time to choose a job.
“I want to emphasize that the Ministry of Labour is committed to the government policy, under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, given at the opening ceremony of JOB EXPO THAILAND, on the importance of employment, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the 20-year National Strategy and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan, all must be done continuously according to the Master Plan towards the goal of security, prosperity, and sustainability, away from the trap of middle-income countries,” concluded the Labour Minister.
