On 9 April 2011, officials of Labour Affairs Division called on Thai workers at Moshav Betshalim located in central region of Israel.
Moshav Betshalim employs totally 30 Thai workers to work in agricultural sector which are crop cultivation, ornamental plants, and dairy farm. The officials went to meet Thai workers working with Mr. Sukki Unglee owning ornamental plants farm located on over 1,000 Rai which employs 10 Thai workers and 1 Vietnamese worker. In this regard, the officials had a chance to meet Thai workers working with other employers as well. They said they earn approximately 50,000-60,000 baht a month for work hours from 06.00 am.-5.00 pm. and 1-1.30 hour of work overtime. The accommodation provided is detached house for 10 persons with 2 restrooms. Earlier, the employer issued a receipt of salary but during the past 6 month, the employer has not issued the receipt yet. The officials therefore advise the workers to inform the company’s interpreter in order to track the receipt.
In addition, it is found that Thai workers working with Mr. Chai Mamor in dairy farm are encountering with the problem regarding the accommodation since the employer did not provide them appropriate accommodation but sent them to live with other employers instead. The officials then agreed to bring this matter to inform the employer to provide appropriate accommodation for those workers.
